…my name is Amanda Smith, and I’m a 3rd grade teacher. Teaching has been a life-long passion of mine. I honestly can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t want to be a teacher. A new passion of mine of late is running. My running time has become a time for me to reflect on myself as an educator (as well as some personal stuff, but mostly the teacher stuff). It was actually while running that I came up with the new name for my blog, Running through Elementary.
I’ve blogged before under a different blog name (The Unscience Teacher), but felt it was time for a change that reflected me as an elementary teacher as a whole (I teach all subjects). So you may find some posts on here from my Unscience Teacher days. New year, new blog name, new direction. Sometimes, new is good (hoping that’s the case here).
I’m a very private person, so writing a blog is difficult for me. However, I’ve got a friend who has quietly and subtly pushed me in this direction, so blame her if this all goes terribly awry (I know I will be). I love writing, and I love sharing my passion for teaching. I won’t promise to have all the answers, or the even the correct ones, but I think it is very important for teachers to share and reflect what they do in the classroom. Teaching can feel very lonely. It’s just us in the classroom with students. To truly grow as educators, we need to be willing to share what we are doing, reflect on how it is going, and change things that just don’t work.
I’ll be using this blog as a place to share what I’m doing in the classroom, reflect on my teaching, and share other education news and my opinions about them.
