Follow the masses or follow your heart/head. If you blindly follow your political party’s views, you are making a big mistake. Look at the issue, both sides, and decide for yourself how you feel about it.
It takes a well-educated person to stop and look at both sides of an issue, so educate yourself. Get the facts, look at other people’s opinions (on both sides of the issue), and decide for yourself.
Not everything in this world is black and white. There can be gray areas on some issues. It’s okay to be on the fence if you can see both sides of an issue. In those instances, it’s a matter of taking a stand on an issue on a case by case basis.
I don’t entirely trust someone who blindly follows whatever group, political party, etc. they are a part of. It shows a lack of individualism, an unwillingness to think for themselves when all they can do is regurgitate the party line without a personal reason as to why they agree/disagree with the issues.
If you agree with whatever group you’ve aligned yourself with 100%, that’s fine, but have your own reasons as to why you agree with them. And it’s okay to change your mind on issues as more information comes to light. Again have a reason for it, not “well my group changed its mind on it, so I did too”. I’ve changed my mind on different issues, and it was after I had learned more about it. Again, research an issue and decide for yourself.
I don’t agree with everything my political party espouses. I don’t agree with everything people I follow on Twitter and Facebook post. I don’t agree with every opinion piece I read. And I shouldn’t be expected to. None of us should.
